Partner City Flag Plaza
Since April 2006, the City of Manhattan has had a formal partnership with Dobrichovice, Czech Republic. One of the many outcomes of the partnership has been the Partner City Flag Plaza. In September 2009 a proposed concept of the Partner City Flag Plaza was presented to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. It was envisioned that the Flag Plaza would comply with the City Park Master Plan and would replace the current “Welcome to City Park” sign and large block limestone flower bed with the Flag Plaza and updated landscaping features to improve the visibility and enhance the entry into City Park. After the presentation and discussion, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board agreed with the general concept and supported the concept being further developed.
On September 21, 2010, the City Commission approved the proposed design by Bowman Bowman Novick, of Manhattan, Kansas, for the Partner City Flag Plaza in City Park and authorized the Partner City Advisory Committee to proceed with private fundraising efforts.
